Dec. 5: Homework 10 is available; it will be due on Monday, Dec. 12, at the start of class.
Dec. 5: The chapter 12 quiz has also been posted on SLUglobal; it will be due by Saturday, Dec. 10, 11:59pm.
Dec. 5: The quizzes over both chapter 13 and chapter 17 are now available on SLUglobal; they are due by Friday, Dec. 9, at 11:59pm.
Nov. 21: Homework 9 is available; it will be due on Friday, Dec. 2, by the beginning of class.
Nov. 16: One final announcement: class next Monday, Nov. 21, is cancelled.
Nov. 16: You have an extra assignment due at the beginning of class on Friday. Please write a 1 paragraph summary of SONY jailbreaking issue discussed in lecture today, addressing at least one of the legal or ethical issues involved. I require at least 2 (non-wikipedia) news sources that you cite, and please make sure to include those in a short bibliography with your paragraph. Make sure to hand it in at the beginning of class, since this is your attendance record for the class.
Nov. 16: Just a quick announcement to let you know that class attendance and participation will be mandatory on Friday, since the in class discussion will count as your quiz grade for the topic of computer ethics. If you have a conflict or can not be at class, contact me ASAP.
Nov. 11: Homework 8 is available; it will be due next Friday, Nov. 18, at the start of class.
Nov. 9: The quizzes for chapter 10 and chapter 15 have both been posted on SLUglobal. The chapter 10 quiz is due by midnight on Saturday, and the chapter 15 quiz is due by midnext next Monday.
Oct. 28: Homework 7 is available; it will be due next Friday, on Nov. 4, at the start of class.
Oct. 27: The quiz over chapter 8 is now on SLUglobal. Note that it is also due on Monday, the 31st, by the end of the day.
Oct. 26: Sorry for the confusion over the due date of the latest quiz; the previous announcement was a type, and it was due 2 days ago (on Monday the 24th). I've altered the date so that you can now take the quiz up until the 31st, as originally announced.
Oct. 20: The quiz is now up on SLU global; it is due by the end of the day on Monday the 31st.
Oct. 19: Homework 6 is available; it will be due next Wednesday, Oct. 26, by the start of class.
Oct. 12: No class today due to illness. Please bring your completed homework to my office and slide it under my door, since I will not be in to teach class. Remember that your proposal for the scratch homework is due tonight.
Oct. 10: Question 34 from the textbook on homework 4 has a bug in it. Please ignore this question when completing the homework. I will have a make-up question on the next homework, but you are not responsible for this question now.
Oct. 10: Homework 5 will be a scratch program which you get to design. The only formal requirements are that you use at least 3 control structures, and at least 5 other programming structures (such as variables, events, etc.) somewhere in the program. Please send me a 1 paragraph proposal of your idea by 11:59pm on Wednesday.
Oct. 5: Homework 3 is now available.
Sept. 19: Office hours will be changed to 2-3pm today.
Sept. 14: Quiz 3 is now up. It was initially posted incorrectly, with only 1 question, but should have all the questions visible now. Please let me know if you have any trouble seeing the full quiz.
Sept. 12: Homework 2 is available; it will be due next Monday before the start of class.
Sept. 8: The second quiz (covering chapter 2) has just been posted on SLU global. It is due by the end of the day on Sunday, Sept. 11.
Sept. 3: Homework 1 is available; it will be due on Monday, September 12, at the start of class.
August 31: I'll need to cancel my office hours tomorrow due to a sick child. Please let me know if you have any questions via email, or email me to set up a time for extra office hours on Friday if you have questions. Sorry for any inconvenience!
August 31: The quiz is now posted on SLU global. Please log into myslu.slu.edu, then click on the SLU global link, and you should see our course listed. Under that course, Quiz 1 should appear. It needs to be completed by Sunday at 5pm, but I'd recommend doing it early just so that we can resolve any issues that arise. Let me know ASAP if you have any trouble.
